CHILDRENS TEA PARTIES

© by Clara Knight; all rights reserved

When we decided to open Belle's Tea Cottage, we knew it was necessary to have a Childrens Tea Menu and be prepared to have Childrens Tea Parties.

We prepared a Children's Tea luncheon, which is served on a tiered tray, with choice of either a Children's herbal tea or lemonade. Each child receives a small tea pot and special butterfly cups. Our Tea Room has had many Children's Tea parties, with some having an etiquette class. We have a reduced rate for Brownies and Girl Scouts.

We soon realized that other guests in the Cottage did not appreciate coming for a nice quiet tea with a Children's party in progress. Although the Children are usually very nice, they still walk fast when going to the bathroom and tend to be loud after they finish their food and start to open presents, etc. They seem to not stay in their chairs as well as adults do.

The quietness of our cottage was lost and adult guests could not carry on a conversation or listen to the soft classical music. We tried to separate the Children's parties from the rest of the Cottage, but this is not always possible when we have a full Cottage. After being open for two years, we decided that the solution to the above problems was to build a separate house for the Children's Tea parties. We built a Children's tea party room in our storage/office building.

The room has been decorated tastefully with the walls being a soft yellow and green and pink curtains with swags of pretty flowers. The tables are set with miniature cups and saucers and junior size plates and silverware. There is a special heart shaped plate for the birthday girl and she can take her cup and saucer home as present from us. The other guests can take their candy necklace napkin ring as a favor from the party. The food is served on tiered trays with light green and pink tea pots for each table.

We built an arbor and decorated it with flowers and bows for a picture area. A memory picture will be given to the birthday girl.

We have collected Victorian type dresses, hats, boas, gloves and jewelry which we will use to dress the girls.

Our rules for the party are:

1) Minimum of 6, maximum of 12 girls
2) Two adults will be accommodated (they are served tea only)
3) Party length is 1 1/2 hours.

The party structure is:

1) The girls will be dressed by our staff.
2) The Birthday girl then opens her presents on the carpet.
3) Food is served.
4) Depending on the age of the girls, an etiquette class will be done, or a story read.
5) The girls can dance, talk or play in Tea Bear's house, but they have to leave it nice and clean.

We will have music which Children enjoy such as hip-hop, rock & roll, etc. They can dance until their parents pick them up.

We will not furnish a cake, but serving utensils and plates will be provided.
