TEA EDUCATION

Tea education is important if you are going to open a tea business. The more you know about tea, the more you will be able to educate your customers. The more you teach your customers, the more satisfied clients you will have. Satisifed customers become repeat customers which is what your goal is for your business.

There are many ways you can educate yourself about tea. Hundreds of books are available. Several that I would recommend are listed below:

1. Tea & Infusions by Jane Pettigrew

2. The Book of Tea by Okakura Kakuzo

3. Tea Basics by Wendy Rasmussen and Ric Rhinehart

4. The New Tea Book by Sara Perry

5. The Book of Herbal Teas by Sara Perry

There are several excellent seminars that are offered that would help in educating yourself about tea.

The World Tea Expo in Las Vegas March 27-29, 2006 is the premier marketplace for the tea industry. Here you will see the new products as there will be a very large group of tea and tea related exhibitors there.

You will also find more resources. There is the opportunity to do networking. The largest gathering of tea profesionals in North America will be there. I think I read on their site that there will be about 3000 in attendance. The first Tea Expo had 700 attendees.

The Spetialty Tea Institute will also be offering Levels 1 and 2 of their Certification Program. These classes are in-depth and developed by a team of industry experts in response to numerous requests for a standardized education program that offers an industry wide, recognizable accreditation.

I have taken Levels 1, 2, and 3. The information learned here would take you several years to gather. I met people from all over and listened to experts in the industry. Also, we tasted teas that are not available in the United States. I would recommend these seminars to any serious tea professional.

You can find a great deal of information on the tea web site: www.teausa.org They have lots of information about tea.

Never stop learning about tea. New things are being discovered every day, especially in the area of tea and health.
